What type of website are you building?

Website Focus

Keeping your website focus on one theme or topic is important to the search engines. For people to be able to find your site on Google, Yahoo or MSN there has to be a good balance of keywords and text. The small business person often tries to cut corners and save money by doing their own website. They’ll often include a section on their children, pets or favorite hobby, which totally dilutes the main focus and purpose of their website. If you want a site about your family and pets then buy a separate domain name and put up another site dedicated to that.

Your website is your store front to the world and a representation of your business. You should want your site to show how knowledgeable and experienced you are in your particular field. New customers aren’t interested in pictures of your kids or how obsessed you are with fishing when it comes to buying a product or a service and the search engines know this. Keep the content of your website focused the business at hand..

When you’re using your website to sell a product or a service your potential customers are judging you and your business on what they see. Their whole judgment is based solely on your website; the website with more pictures of your kid on the home page than the product or services you’re trying to sell is not going to help your business. A person running a business from their home with a professionally well done site will be more successful with the online shopper than a much bigger business that presents an amateurish image.
